SF Giants drop sixth straight, lose to Tigers 5-1

In this story:
The SF Giants lost to the Detroit Tigers Monday morning, 5-1. In a makeup game from the first half postponed to make this 11-game stretch their longest road trip of the year, they could not put offense together to match the Tigers. The Giants have lost six straight games, hot on the heels of completing a seven-game win streak. Ross Stripling had a very solid outing for the Giants, but his three allowed runs were too much for the Giants to overcome.
Stripling, who’s been given longer opportunities since he’s settled into his pitch arsenal, came in to start, and made his second consecutive successful outing. In today’s game, he pitched six innings, giving up just three runs off ten hits, striking out three and giving up zero walks. But those three runs were a huge detriment to the Giants, who’ve been missing at the plate for the last six games.
In the first inning, Stripling gave up a double to Riley Greene, who went 3-4 on the day, and then a single to Spencer Torkelson, which scored Greene. The Tigers went up 1-0, and Stripling managed to limit the damage further that inning.
But then in the third, Stripling allowed three singles to Jake Rogers, Greene, and Kerry Carpenter which allowed the Tigers to go ahead 2-0. In the fifth, the story was the same. With two outs, Stripling again allowed three singles, giving the Tigers one more run to add to their lead, 3-0.
The Giants also dazzled with some incredible defensive plays; in the bottom of the second Patrick Bailey threw out Akil Baddoo trying to steal second.

In the bottom of the third, with two men on and two outs, Austin Slater made an incredible diving catch in the outfield to end the inning and stop the Tigers from getting a larger lead.

And in the fifth, Michael Conforto robbed Zach McKinstry of a home run at the wall, leaping up to make the catch.

But on the offensive side, the Giants were radio silent until the sixth inning, when Wilmer Flores, whose hot streak hasn’t been diminished by the slumps of his teammates, hit a home run to left field to bring the score to 3-1.
The Giants’ story wouldn’t end there. In the bottom of the eighth, a ground ball just skated by LaMonte Wade Jr. at first to give Andy Ibañez a double. On the very next pitch, Zack Short, who came in to pinch hit, homered off Ryan Walker, who’d been brought in to relieve Scott Alexander. The Tigers went up 5-1.
With only three outs left to gain back four runs, the Giants had a couple of hitters reach base but were unable to mount a comeback against Tigers' top reliever Jason Foley.
The SF Giants return to San Francisco to take on the Oakland A’s in the annual Bay Bridge series. First pitch at Oracle Park will be at 6:45 PM Pacific.
