Indians Acquire RHP Nick Goody From Yankees for Cash Considerations

The Cleveland Indians added another arm to compete for a bullpen spot, acquiring 25-year-old right-handed reliever Nick Goody from the Yankees in exchange for cash considerations.

The team issued the following press release to announce the move:

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster move relative to the Major League 40-man roster:

Acquired RHP NICK GOODY from the New York Yankees in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations. Compensation must be completed by May 5, 2017.

Goody, 25, has spent his entire professional career to date in the New York Yankees organization, posting an ERA of 4.66 in 27 relief appearances with the Yankees in 2016 (29.0IP, 30H, 15ER, 12BB, 34SO). He has averaged 9.60 strikeouts per 9.0IP during his brief Major League career and owns a career Minor League ERA of 2.19 in 113 games/4 starts (152.0IP, 107H, 37ER, 51BB, 220SO, 13.0 SO per 9.0IP). The Orlando, FL native was New York’s sixth round pick in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of LSU and underwent reconstructive right elbow surgery in April 2013. Goody was designated for assignment on December 15 prior to today’s trade.
