Indians Defeat Baltimore 5-1; Three Takeaways From The Win

The Indians came away with a 5-1 win to put them up 2-1 in this four game series against the Baltimore Orioles and look to end the road trip on the right note tomorrow for a series win.

Carlos Carrasco picked up his eighth win of the year. The bats were alive behind him tonight as they scored five runs on 11 hits.

Tomorrow's game will be the end of the road trip before heading home for seven games, starting with the Minnesota Twins on Friday.

1. Staying Aggressive

Indians hitters were able to plant three runs but most importantly, the hitters were able to stay patient and wait for their pitch. It was enough to get the job done tonight.

Everyone in the lineup besides Edwin Encarnacion, Austin Jackson and Carlos Santana got a hit. The hitters stayed patient at the plate against Baltimore starter Kevin Gausman, especially when Francisco Lindor launched a two-run homer to center field in the fifth. The Tribe would extend their lead in the ninth off Orioles reliever Miguel Castro when Francisco Lindor delivered a RBI single to right. It became a 5-0 game when Jason Kipnis singled to center for and RBI to score Roberto Perez.

2. Strong outing from Carlos Carrasco-

Indians starter Carlos Carrasco has never been selected as an All-Star but he should be considered when that time comes next month. The right-hander pitched like an All-Star today as he shut down the Orioles, going six innings strong, giving up seven hits and striking out 10. Also to mention, Cookie had everything going from the time he threw the first pitch to his last pitch thrown.

Cookie was dealing tonight as he helped his Indians team to a victory, being aggressive early and pounding the strike zone all night.

That improves his record to 8-3 and he is set to pitch again Monday at home against the Texas Rangers

3. Andrew Miller Dominance

Though Carlos Carrasco gets the win tonight, Andrew Miller was there for the rescue. Carrasco left the seventh inning with bases loaded with no outs and turned it to the reliever.

What did he do? Well, he got the team out of the jam and struck out two batters to show pure dominance.
