Indians Rest Starters, Lose 6-4 to the Tigers

CLEVELAND - No matter what was the outcome of today's game, it was still a good weekend for the Indians. Yes, they did lose the series against the Detriot Tigers, but one they clinch last night to earn a spot in the postseason, and secondly, seeing the young players play in the series finally.

Tigers rallied back in middle innings to defeat the Indians 6-3 but mostly, had to do with the long ball that the Tigers offered today.

With the off-day coming tomorrow, Indians will get back to work Tuesday as they will welcome the Chicago White Sox for a three-game series.

Here are the three takeaways from today's loss.

1. Shane Bieber's outing

Today, the starting pitcher Shane Bieber was handed his fourth loss after allowing five runs on nine hits in six innings of work. The rookie has some problems in the fifth inning allowing base hits in the inning.

First baseman Jim Adduci hit a three-run home run to make it 5-3. Detroit went 4-for-9 in that order. After the first inning giving up an early run, he retired the next 10 of 12 batters.

Bieber is now 1-1 against the Tigers this season.

2. Facing Liriano 

Tigers starter Franciso Liriano secured his fifth win of the season. He gave up three runs on five hits in seven innings of work. Liriano issue started in the first inning where he gave up an RBI single to yandy Diaz to score Greg Allen who doubled down the right-field line.

Then in the fourth inning, Diaz began the inning with a double. Eric Haase hit an RBI single to left to make it 2-1. Then became a 3-1 ballgame when Erik Gonzalez connected on an RBI groundout to score Guyer.

3. Back to work Tuesday

The club has 13 more games and six more home games against the White Sox and the Boston Red Sox. Already clinched the Central division, the Indians will get back to work Tuesday. Likely the starters will be back the on-field and in the starting lineup. Today, was just about getting the young players opportunities.
