Top Moments of the Indians First Half

We've reached the All Star Break, and the Indians find themselves with a 52-36 record and a 6.5 game first place lead in the AL Central. Let's take a look at some of the most memorable moments from the Tribe's successful first half of the season.

1. The Francisco Lindor Comedy Show

On April 13, as the Indians were finishing off a 4-1 victory over the Rays, Francisco Lindor provided some comic relief when he dove for a ball that got stuck in the catwalks of Tropicana Field.

Later on in April in a game against the Tigers, Lindor couldn't stop laughing after being knocked over by a hard grounder but still making the play at first.

2. Walking all over the Reds

The Tribe didn't just sweep the 4-game home-and-home series against Cincinnati, they absolutely tore the cover off the ball against Reds pitching. In just 4 games, Cleveland scored 43 runs and tallied 56 hits against its in-state rivals. The team was also patient at the plate, drawing four straight bases-loaded walks in the 5th inning of May 17's contest.

3. Just Like They Planned It

This Lindor webgem definitely stood out for getting Jose Ramirez in on the act in the 9th inning of a June 4th drubbing of the Royals. I don't know what's more remarkable: the play itself or the fact that Ramirez and Lindor actually planned for it before it happened.

4. Santana Ends the Marathon

There were so many amazing moments and performances during the Indians' 14-game winning streak, including two walkoff wins against Chicago thanks to Carlos Santana and Jose Ramirez, back-to-back complete games from Corey Kluber and Trevor Bauer, and four homeruns in a single inning against Detroit's Justin Verlander. However, I think the moment that best encapsulated the whole streak came at the end of the 19-inning battle in Toronto that gave the club its fourteenth win in a row. Tribe pitching was dominant like it was during the whole streak, allowing 1 run in 19 innings, and the offense provided just enough when Santana drilled a ball to centerfield in the top of the 19th to give the Indians a 2-1 victory.

5. Davis Hits for the Cycle

The Indians made so much franchise history during their win streak that even their streak-snapping loss included a historic performance. Rajai Davis became the 8th Indians player to hit for the cycle in a 9-6 July 2 loss to the Jays. Interestingly, Davis hit for the cycle "backwards," hitting a home run first, then a triple, double, and single.

6. Party at Napoli's

It started with a fan-made sign at Progressive Field, then Indians fans on Twitter began using #PartyAtNapolis to celebrate veteran Mike Napoli's majestic homeruns. The slogan then became a t-shirt, and on July 8, Napoli took the party to John Adams' territory with a 460-foot blast that landed three rows from the top of the left field bleachers.
