Former Indians OF Yasiel Puig Tests Positive for the Covid-19 Virus

It took outfielder Yasiel Puig quite awhile to finally decide where he wanted his baseball career to continue, as he came to terms a few days back with the Atlanta Braves. Friday though it was announced that Puig would not be joining the Braves as he has tested positive for the covid-19 virus, meaning he remains a free agent and now must pass a test to be considered for the Braves or any other team in baseball.

It appeared that outfield Yasiel Puig was ready to continue his baseball career, inking a one-year deal with the Atlanta Braves.

Today though that's not the case, as the one-time Cleveland Indian outfielder announced on twitter that he has tested positive in a COVID-19 test. The positive test means that he will remain a free agent.

Although asymptomatic and feeling fine, the Braves will not move forward with a contract unless Puig subsequently tests negative for the disease. Thus, the former member of the Tribe is still a free agent, technically.

With the Indians last season, Puig hit .297 with two home runs and 23 runs batted in. This after being traded from the Cincinnati Reds near the deadline.

Each day, more and more athletes announce a positive test for this horrific disease that has absolutely decimated the country. It has cut the baseball season by just about 100 games.

The hope is that the 29-year-old continues to not have any symptoms and gets that negative test in the near future in order to be able to sign a contract and move forward with this upcoming year. For now, the slugger will be in the prayers of those that follow baseball.

Additionally, that this is the last of the many cases that have plagued players, coaches and staff around the league.
