Game one of the doubleheader Saturday between the Indians and Tigers had plenty of ups and downs, but in the end a bad inning by Bryan Shaw sealed the Tribe's fate and a 7-4 loss.

The loss puts the Indians at 42-37 on the season.

The second game of the set will be later on Saturday, but for now here's a quick three takeaways from the first game, and a quick glance at game two coming up from Comerica Park.

3. Shaw's Struggles

Bryan Shaw entered the game in the bottom of the 7th with the game tied following the homer by Indians Carlos Santana, and quickly gave it right back.

Shaw gave up a lead off walk, which set the stage as Nick Castellanos hit his fifth triple of the season to make it a 5-4 Tigers lead.

The Tribe reliever tried to limit the damage, and eventually had to intentionally walked Victor Martinez, putting runners on the corners, but Mikie Mahtook flared an RBI single to left to make it 6-4.

James McCann's single brought home Victor Martinez to give the Tigers a three-run lead, putting the game away.

It was a tough pill to swallow after the Indians worked hard to tie the game at four.

2. More Issues for Tomlin

The Indians are going to have to make some big decisions to make with Josh Tomlin, as despite getting a no-decision, he was ineffective again as the Indians gave him an early 1-0 lead.

He wound up going 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with two walks and three K's.

The veteran pitcher simply isn't getting it done, and he's putting the team behind too early in games, which makes it an uphill battle.

The same thing happened on Saturday, as the Indians trailed 4-1, and while they fought back, it was then Shaw who allowed the game to go the other way with three runs in the 7th.

1. Looking at Game Two

Ryan Merritt is up with the big league club, but Terry Francona said he was going to go with Dan Otero as the starter and make it a 'Bullpen Game' but possibly Merritt could take the bump at some point.

The Indians offense only pounded out six hits in game one, and despite the four runs again the team was behind early 4-1 and had to work their way through the game before they finally fell by three.

The Tribe is 1.5 up on the Twins as of now, but again it would be nice to get some distance between them, but they can't seem to get traction as they win three, lose two, lose three, win two.

It's been a maddening season with the team being inconsistent, but we will see if they can get back in the win column tonight.
