Indians Fall to Royals 2-1 in 10 Innings; Three Takeaways

The regular season is in its final days, but that doesn't make tough losses any easier to swallow.
Thursday the Indians had one of those tough losses against a pretty bad Kansas City Royals team, as the club wasted what could have been the final outing in an Indians uniform for Josh Tomlin, losing 2-1 in 10 innings.
Salvador Perez got the winning run home against Indians reliever Neil Ramirez, dropping him to 0-3 on the season.
The Tribe offense was around early, as they scored a single run in the first inning, but then pretty much took the rest of the night off as they never got another runner across home plate again.
There's three more games of the series left as the Indians will turn to Mike Clevinger on Friday night with still a chance to get to 90 wins before the postseason.
Here's three quick takeaways from the loss.
1. A Sendoff for Tomlin?
Tribe starter Josh Tomlin may have thrown his final game for the Indians on Thursday, going 4.1 innings of not bad ball, allowing a run on four hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
It's a shame that it took him till the final week of the season to have an outing like he did on Thursday, but it appears that likely he will leave the team on a high note, as it's impossible to think he'd make the postseason roster.
If it is the final time he's on the mound for the Indians, kudos to him for never complaining, always taking the rap when things went bad, and always being a competitor while wearing a Wahoo uniform.
2. No 'O'
The Indians offense as mentioned in the open got a run in the first on a Jose Ramírez sacrifice fly to left, scoring Francisco Lindor.
Little did we know that would be it for the offense, who slept walked the rest of the night, not scoring another run while going 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position, getting 10 hits in the loss.
On a positive note, two players on the team combined for half of the teams' hits in the loss, as Josh Donaldson continues to impress with three hits, and Yandy Daiz had two hits for the Indians.
3. The Royals Won't Be Record Setting Bad
The Royals have had a flat out awful 2018, and the Indians with a sweep could have sent them to tying their worst season in franchise history, when they lost 106 games in 2005.
That won't happen now, as Salvador Perez smacked a two-out base hit to left field, scoring Adalberto Mondesi, giving the Royals the win and giving them a glimmer of happiness with four games left in the season.
It wasn't that long ago the Royals were in back-to-back World Series' which is why Indians fans should never forget the happiness they are having over the AL Central titles and playoff births they are getting to watch right now.
