Indians Placing 1B/DH Edwin Encarnacion on the Disabled List

Indians manager Terry Francona announced following Saturday’s win over the Sox in Chicago that slugger Edwin Encarnacion is headed for the disabled list.

Indians manager Terry Francona announced following Saturday’s win over the Sox in Chicago that slugger Edwin Encarnacion is headed for the disabled list.

“We’re going to put Edwin on the disabled list, he actually got his hand X-rayed, and it actually came back really good, really clean so we’re pleased about that,” Francona said.

“There’s some swelling in the bicep, it’s not bad at all, between the wrist and the bicep, I think we just thought 10 days and letting him come back and being Edwin made the most sense.”

Encarnacion this season is hitting .229 (88-for-384) with 25 homers, 81 RBI and 56 runs.

Francona said that the team is calling up Yandy Diaz from AAA Columbus to take Encarnacion’s place on the roster while he’s on the DL.

Diaz was impressive, going 7-for-14 with two RBI in a four-game stint with the Indians out of the All-Star break.

Overall he is hitting .293 (102-for-348) with 24 doubles, three homers and 40 RBI for Columbus.
