Indians tie longest winning streak of the year with ninth straight win; three takeaways

The Cleveland Indians continued to roll on Friday night with their ninth straight victory.
The Indians recorded their second doubleheader sweep in three days time, with a 10-0 win over the Tigers in Detroit.
On Wednesday, the Indians recorded two wins in a doubleheader with the New York Yankees. Earlier Friday afternoon, the Tribe notched a nail-biter 3-2 victory against the Tigers.
Before Cleveland takes on two more games in Detroit this weekend, here are our three takeaways from the Friday night mauling of the Tigers.
1. Clevinger does damage
Clevinger topped the Tigers for the third straight time this year on Friday night.
In six innings of work, Clevinger gave up just three hits and one walk, en route to striking out six in his shutout win. The victory marked Clevinger's eighth total of the year.
While Clevinger has allowed the Tigers to score just one run on him in 2017, even he couldn't deny the boost he got from the Tribe offense on Friday.
"The roll that they've been on has been awesome," Clevinger said when talking about the offense. "Even in the tough games, there's still good [at-bats] throughout."
2. Sixth inning bat magic
While the Indians had a 5-0 lead through five, the sixth inning was when the floodgates opened.
The Tribe exploded for five runs in the inning that gave them their monstrous 10-0 lead.
Roberto Perez got the party started with a solo-homer to left field. Yandy Diaz recorded a one-out, RBI single four at-bats later, while Jay Bruce followed him with a sacrifice-fly RBI of his own.
In the next two at-bats, Edwin Encarnacion and Carlos Santana each drove in a run with a double and a single, respectively.
While the Indians had a big lead prior, the sixth inning was ultimately what washed any hopes of a Tigers comeback down the drain.
3. The bottom of the order
The Indians bats have been coming to life pretty consistently throughout their nine-game win streak. In fact, during this streak, the Indians have outscored opponents 63-15.
On Friday night, though, the bottom of the order really got the best of Detroit. The trio of Perez, Giovanny Urshela and Erik Gonzalez went 7-of-15 from the plate (or a .467 average), and drove in six runs.
Three of those runs came from Perez on his home run, and his two-run RBI single in the fourth inning.
This Indians team has really been clicking from the mound and at the plate during the last couple of weeks, and is starting to show exactly what they are capable of as we get closer to the post-season. They are now tied with their longest winning streak this year, and it's clear to even casual observers how much fun they are having.
If they can continue to add consistent offense, don't be surprised if they overtake the Houston Astros for the top spot in the American League before the month is over.
