The Indians today gave an update on some of their injured players, starting with infielder Jason Kipnis.

The starting second baseman left Wednesday’s game in Scottsdale with a strain of his right calf.

Today the team said that results of an MRI confirmed low grade (mild) calf strain.

Kipnis will have no baseball activity for a period of seven-to-10 days before being re-evaluated, meaning that the Tribe will need a second basemen for the first few games if not more of the regular season.

Also manager Terry Francona stated today that outfielder Bradley Zimmer and shortstop Francisco Lindor both are continuing to make strides in their progressions and will each begin the year on the 10-day Injured List.

The club did announce a pair of roster moves, as they optioned catcher Eric Haase to AAA Columbus and relief pitcher Justin Grimm has elected to be a free agent instead of going to the minors.
