Mets' Pete Alonso Outlasts Blue Jays Rookie Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to Win the 2019 HR Derby

CLEVELAND - A night of bombs by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. might have made him the fan favorite among the Indians faithful at Progressive Field once Carlos Santana

CLEVELAND - A night of bombs by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. might have made him the fan favorite among the Indians faithful at Progressive Field once Carlos Santana was eliminated in the first round, but it wasn't enough as New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso took home the trophy for the 2019 Home Run Derby.

It was one of, if not the most entertaining derby events of all-time, as Guerrero and Los Angeles Dodgers' Joc Pederson at one point went into a pair of sudden death three-pitch overtimes to determine who would move to the finals.

Guerrero won that battle, but it was Alonso, who beat out Santana in the first round, who won the overall event, beating Guerrero 23-22 to take home the $1 million dollar prize.

Overall Guerrero shattered the event record with a single-Derby-record 91 homers, but in the end Alonso was one homer better to take home the win.

The Mets rookie, nicknamed 'Polar Bear' is just 24 years old, and became the first Met to win this event outright.
