These Players Once Suited Up for the Indians - You Probably Forgot Quite a Few of Them

Since the Indians moved into Jacobs (now Progressive Field) in 1994, there's been a gaggle of players that have come and gone since that time. As the team got good in the mid-to- late 90's, there were a number of players with big names that would try to squeeze one more year in the game that would do it in Cleveland. Here's some of the memorable ones.

The Cleveland Indians path of success which started in 1994 was built to try and bring home a World Series for their fans.

The organization spent a number of years being aggressive both on the trade markets as well as in free agency doing what they could to bring in players that could put them over the top.

The club always seemed to be in the midst of both trade rumors during the season, as well as rumors about inking players in the offseason in free agency.

From 10 seasons from 1994 to 2003 it always seemed the Indians were in that mix to try and better their roster.

Over those years there was a ton of players and rumors that seemed to be in the mix for the Tribe, with a lot of those players just coming in for a cup of coffee.

While there was a lot of 'busts' players, there also was a list of players who did come in and help the team be a lot better and were even starters.

Here's a list of just few of the players that you might remember that joined the team for some amount of time from between 94 to 2003.

David Segui, Dwight Gooden, Jeff Kent, Shawon Dunston, Harold Baines, Matt Lawton, Mark Langston, Jack Morris, Kent Mercker, Dave Winfield, Mark Whiten, Bobby Witt, Terry Mulholland, Jeff Juden, Cecil Fielder.   

The team it seemed would do what they can to land that one marquee free agent, but most of the time even then it seemed would either get beat out by another team or just not want to offer the money or years.

Then there was the team bringing in players who were once with the team that they wanted to try and capture lightening in a bottle once again.

Those players include pitcher Tom Candiotti who at age 41 came aboard in 1999 and threw in seven games, going 1-1 with an 11.05 ERA.

Ex-closer Doug Jones was also 41 when he came back to the team in 1998, and in 23 appearances with the team went 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA. 

Segui was one player the team wanted to bring back after he hit free agency. He came to the team in a deal with the Texas Rangers in 2000, and in 57 games hit well, ending the year with an average of .332 with eight homers and 46 runs batted in.

The team wasn't able to get Segui to return for 2001, losing out in free agency for his services to the Baltimore Orioles.
