Mets Teammates Pushing For Ace to Win Rookie of the Year

In this story:
There has not been a lot of positive for the New York Mets organization to point to so far this season. They became sellers at the trade deadline after drastically underperforming and are playing the final month of the season without playoff implications.
With that reality in mind, the front office has called up some of their top prospects to begin the evaluation process for their future going forward.
One of their rookies has been performing at a high level since Opening Day.
The Mets signed Kodai Senga to a five-year, $75 million contract this offseason, bringing over the phenom from Japan.
He was expected to be a solid piece in the rotation behind their aces Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander. With those two being shipped out at the deadline, all eyes have been on the rookie.
It's safe to say he's lived up to the hype since being billed as a top international prospect.
Senga now sits with a 2.95 ERA, one of five qualified starting pitchers to have under a 3.00 ERA this season. His record improved to 11-7 after Thursday's performance where he went six innings, allowing only two hits and striking out 10 batters.
Now, his teammates and manager are calling on voters to give him some hardware after the season.
"I think he is Rookie of the Year for what he has done this year. He has 11 wins in probably one of the toughest divisions in baseball. He has contributed and has been our most consistent player," star shortstop Francisco Lindor said to MLB.com's Bill Ladson.
NL Rookie of the Year will likely to to the Arizona Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll, who has been the frontrunner basically all season.
But if the 30-year-old rookie is able to close the season strong and continue to pitch like he did his last outing, he could have a strong case to win the award.
