When Starling Marte, Brandon Nimmo Will Play for New York Mets

Find out when Starling Marte and Brandon Nimmo are expected to get into Grapefruit League action for the Mets.

They're getting close.

As Mets manager Buck Showalter told reporters on Wednesday, right fielder Starling Marte is on track to make his Grapefruit League debut on Friday. As for center fielder Brandon Nimmo, Showalter says he will "hopefully" begin playing over the weekend.

Marte underwent core muscle surgery in the offseason, which is why the Mets have been easing him back into action during Spring Training.

"He's done everything we could possibly put him through," Showalter said of Marte. "He's been wanting to play for a couple of days now."

While Marte is set to return on Friday, Showalter says he will most likely not play in back-to-back games at the start.

"I think we've taken every possible precaution that you can take, almost to a fault," Showalter said.

Regarding Nimmo, he is not injured, but has not played in a Grapefruit League game yet because he is managing his workload this spring to avoid injury during the regular season.

The Mets have been missing 2/3rds of their starting outfield in Grapefruit League play so far, but it sounds like this is about to change over the weekend.
