Since taking over his role with the Baltimore Orioles, general manager Mike Elias has shown his ability and willingness to find value in players and prospects that might be viewed less favorably than in years past.

This has been a major component to his front office putting together the best farm system in baseball.

Now, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN, the Orioles added another minor leaguer after signing intriguing utilityman Errol Robinson.

The 29-year-old grew up in Maryland before attending the University of Mississippi. He was the sixth round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2016 MLB Draft.

In two years, he cracked the Top-20 of the Dodgers' farm system, being ranked No. 20 in 2018 after making it to Double-A in his second professional season.

However, as a full-time Double-A player in 2018, he didn't put together a great season, slashing .247/.310/.353 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI across 117 games.

This bumped him out of the Top-30 rankings for Los Angeles and he was eventually claimed off of waivers by the Cincinnati Reds in December 2020.

Robinson's hitting struggles continued during his two years in the Reds' pipeline and he was eventually released.

The St. Louis Cardinals signed him to a minor league contract in July 2022, before they moved on following the 2023 season.

Now, Baltimore will take their chance on the talented prospect who has yet to break through and appear in a Major League game.

With a loaded roster and farm system already, why would the Orioles sign Robinson?

Kubatko thinks his utility work on defense could his valuable asset.

"Versatility could get Robinson to the next level. He’s played second base, third base, shortstop and all three outfield positions, making him an interesting utility candidate," he writes.

The ability to play multiple positions is viewed very favorably within Baltimore's organization, as evident by manager Brandon Hyde moving his players all across the infield.

Robinson might never appear at the Major League level for the Orioles, but they were able to add another depth piece in case they need it during the regular season.
