FanGraphs Predicts Baltimore Orioles Repeat Division Success in 2024

In this story:
It's clear that the Baltimore Orioles are on the cusp of being a perennial powerhouse in not just the AL East division, but in the entire American League for years to come.
Their talented draft picks over the years have blossomed into young stars.
This result is the best case scenario for the Orioles' franchise who has been hesitant to spend and wanted to rebuild using the MLB Draft.
Speculation has surrounded Baltimore about how aggressive the front office will be this offseason as they are a couple pieces away from truly becoming World Series contenders.
While Mike Elias and his executives begin to navigate their plans, FanGraphs still views the Orioles as the team most likely to repeat as AL East champions in 2024.
"The current ZiPS sim has them at around 92 wins, the best record in the division," Dan Szymborski writes.
These are early projections as other teams in the division are rumored to be aggressively adding high-level pieces throughout the winter. The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees are seen as major players this offseason and the Boston Red Sox also seem willing to spend money.
If that happens, the additions from those teams could shake up what FanGraphs is projecting.
"But that number will be revised as the winter progresses, and if teams like the Jays make any big additions and the O’s don’t, this standing could erode somewhat, despite the depth," Szymborski notes.
Simply put, while Baltimore is seen as the favorites to win their division right now, a big offseason from other teams in AL East, combined with the Orioles not making impactful moves, could hurt the outlook of the team in 2024.
They had a great season in 2023.
But despite the positive projections right now, if they are quiet in the offseason, they could have a hard time repeating as divisional champions.
