The Baltimore Orioles had a great regular season, finishing as the American League's best team and winning the AL East for the first time since 2014.

They flamed out in the ALDS round of the MLB Playoffs, getting swept by the Texas Rangers and being outscored 21-11 across the three games.

So, where do the Orioles go from here to ensure that they can make deeper postseason runs for years to come?

Because their roster is full of young players, much of the focus will be on developing these stars.

But, one area they are expected to make some changes will be their starting pitching rotation.

According to Jake Rill of MLB.com, Baltimore is expected to move away from their veteran.

"There’s a decent chance the team won’t bring back Kyle Gibson, who will be a free agent after signing a one-year, $10 million deal last offseason," he writes.

The 36-year-old joined the Orioles after spending 2022 with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Gibson recorded a 15-9 record in 2023, but had an ERA of 4.73 and threw his most pitches in a season (3,038) since 2018.

Whether the front office is looking to be aggressive to acquire a top-level starter is unknown at this time.

Rill says that Baltimore has the top-4 of their rotation in mind with some internal competition coming for the fifth slot.

"Four starters can be penciled into the Orioles’ 2024 rotation: Kyle Bradish, Dean Kremer, John Means and Grayson Rodriguez ... Among the candidates for the fifth spot will be [Tyler] Wells and [DL] Hall, with the former the probable front-runner at this point," he reports.

The Orioles also have two of their top prospects in Triple-A on the verge of making their MLB debuts if the front office wants to lean further into the youth route.

The fifth starter will be something to monitor as it looks like they'll allow Gibson to walk in free agency during the offseason.
