The San Diego Padres' 4-0 win over the Kansas City Royals was far from perfect but this current squad is also very, very far from perfect and any win was necessary after a nightmare weekend at Dodger Stadium.

SD's offense still has not woken up despite them getting four runs recorded. Two of them were thanks to errors on Kansas City's end and one of them required Manny Machado to take a literal sacrifice hit to the hand.

However, this was a night where the Friars did not need to produce a ton on offense in order to finally claim a victory to their name. They took care of business on defense and more specifically, Michael Wacha put forth one of his best performances on the mound ever.

Wacha tried to go for eight innings and a perfect game as he was rolling though the first seven. No hits had been allowed on his end but that unfortunately came to an end when Michael Massey was able to finally get a single and Wacha stepped off.

A sellout crowd at Petco Park gave him a standing ovation for leading them to a much-needed win.

Wacha was still extremely pleased with how he played and can live with how his perfect night ended because he was trying tp trick the batter.

“I was doing the math in there,” said Wacha, who had previously come within one out and three outs of a no-hitter. “I would have loved a three-pitch inning there in the eighth and another one in the ninth. I was just just trying to stay on the attack and maybe they’d hit it to somebody. … Just left a change-up up there, and he put a good swing on it.”

Nonetheless, we are super happy to see him continue to find success whenever he starts.

Team manager Bob Melvin also provided a huge update after Manny Machado got hit with a pitch.

We'll see everybody back in action at 6:40 pm PT.
