In this story:

The San Diego Padres hiring of former St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt has been generally received as a positive by most in the industry. He brings prior experience to the table, and coming from in-house, he knows the players already.

Former MLB player Xavier Scruggs posted about the hiring of Schildt and praised the new San Diego manager. He spent time in the Cardinals organization while Schildt was there, and he believes San Diego got the right guy.

This is an entire thread, and we highly recommend you check out the whole thing.

This is great news for the Padres, and it goes back to why they hired him in the first place. The Padres want to compete next season, and they believe that Shildt is the best man to lead them.

One main thing that the Padres lacked last season was hitting on the basics, and Shildt should be able to help them get back to that. He is a great Xs and Os type of coach, and his teams tend to be strong defensively as well.

The first step for the Padres will be to figure out how to win the NL West. Winning the division is the easiest way to guarantee a playoff spot, but it won't be easy as the Los Angeles Dodgers have dominated the division for years.

However, Shildt knows that this team can compete and his goal is to take the division. He wants to get the most out of this team that struggled a season ago, and winning does cure all.

San Diego knows that they have their work cut out for them this offseason, but getting the managerial hire correct was crucial. Shildt is now tasked with leading this team forward, and all signs are pointing to them getting a good one.
