Padres News: Dodgers Manager Shares His Thoughts On Manny Machado’s Contract Extension

In this story:
It is very easy to forget that before Manny Machado was slamming home runs in Petco Park and racking up wins in gold and brown, he was suiting up for the Los Angeles Dodgers for about half a season in 2018. The star third baseman made it to the World Series with LA and it was even rumored that they would be interested in a reunion if he hit free agency after this year.
However, San Diego's front office knew they couldn't part ways with arguably the face of their franchise and rewarded their leader with an 11-year, $365 million contract extension. There was a lot of noise surrounding the team during Machado's ongoing negations but all teams, including the Dodgers, will now have to look elsewhere during free agency.
Being one of the biggest stars in baseball, news of Machado's deal garnered lots of love and positive reactions from all around the league. Dodgers team manager Dave Roberts was among those who congratulated the star in an interview provided by Doug McKain.

"I'm very happy for Manny. I love Manny, I love the way he plays the game, heck of a baseball player," said Roberts. "We're going to have to deal with him for as far as we can see out. So I think it's good for baseball, I think Mr.Seidler spending money, getting the right guy to build around. It's a good move and now we just have to figure out how to get them out."
The Friars and Dodgers have been touted as local rivals all throughout their history. They most recently met up in the first round of last year's playoffs with San Diego coming out victorious. Both teams have new rosters heading into this year and are bound to bump heads along the way.
