4 Free Agent Bullpen Targets for Philadelphia Phillies This Offseason

The Philadelphia Phillies will ideally look to add more arms into their bullpen this offseason as they start to remake some different pieces around the established arms.

A lot of the focus for the Philadelphia Phillies right now is centered around the starting pitcher market in both free agency and via trades.

With their ace Aaron Nola able to sign anywhere, there's a chance they lose him to another team.

The Phillies are reportedly interested in a Japanese phenom who could step in and be a top-level pitcher in his first season of Major League Baseball.

But while the starters are getting much of the attention, their bullpen also needs to add some pieces following the departure of Craig Kimbrel and Michael Lorenzen, who was used as a reliever in the playoffs.

Here are four free agents that Philadelphia could target.

Jordan Hicks

Besides Josh Hader, who the Phillies could also be interested in, it seems like Hicks is the best available relief arm. He's a flamethrowing pitcher who is only 27 years old. Injuries have stunted his growth after two incredible seasons to start his career. He would bring a power right-handed arm into Philadelphia's bullpen.

Reynaldo Lopez

The Phillies should be searching for high-leverage arms for late inning work. That's what Lopez brings to the table. Since moving into a full-time reliever role in 2021, he has an ERA of 3.14 across 189 innings pitched and had his highest K/9 figure of his career during 2023.

Phil Maton

If Philadelphia wants to add pedigree to their bullpen, then Maton should be a major target of theirs. He was an important piece for the Houston Astros, who had one of the best relief staffs while he was there. In six appearances in the 2023 postseason, Maton recorded a 0.00 ERA across six innings pitched.

Wandy Peralta

Since the New York Yankees traded for Peralta at the trade deadline in 2021, he has turned into one of the best left-handed relievers in the game. For two-and-a-half seasons with the Yankees, he didn't have an ERA above 3.00. The Phillies already have three lefties in their bullpen, but adding another high-leverage arm on a short-term deal would be an incredible addition.
