Texas Rangers Ace Jacob deGrom Takes Rehab Step

Jacob deGrom threw off the mound for the first time, but the Texas Rangers still haven't shared a timetable for his return.

ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Rangers ace Jacob deGrom took another step in his rehab by throwing a light bullpen session on Tuesday.

The two-time Cy Young pitcher has been on the injured list since April 29 with right elbow inflammation. The Rangers haven’t set a definite timetable for deGrom’s return.

“Today was positive,” Texas general manager Chris Young said Tuesday. “We'll see how he feels coming in [Wednesday] and determine the next steps.”

The Rangers do hope to map out a rehab schedule for deGrom in the near future.

The bullpen session is the first instance of deGrom throwing off the mound since being hurt. He did some light throwing on the club’s recent west coast road trip.

While nothing is definite, it’s appearing more likely that deGrom won’t be back in May. A return to the rotation in June seems the probable scenario.

The last outing for deGrom lasted four innings on April 28 against the New York Yankees. He left the game with what was announced as right forearm tightness before undergoing an MRI exam the following day.
