Texas Rangers Blanked, Win Streak Snapped by Mariners

In this story:
The bats haven’t been silent much this season for the Texas Rangers.
On Tuesday night, they were.
The Seattle Mariners, behind starter George Kirby, blanked the Rangers 5-0 to even up the series at T-Mobile Park.
American League West-leading Texas (21-14) saw its three-game winning streak snapped and is in jeopardy of losing a division series for the first time this season.
With the rubber match of the three-game series set for Wednesday at 2:40 p.m. CT, the Rangers are turning to Dane Dunning (2-0, 1.42) for the second time. Luis Castillo (2-0, 2.38) is scheduled to go for Seattle.
Dunning also started Friday and pitched five scoreless innings in the normal turn for injured ace Jacob deGrom.
Just being in position to win the series is a welcome sight for the Rangers in the Pacific Northwest. Texas is just 5-23 in Seattle since 2020.
The latest loss was rare for the Rangers on the offensive front. The highest-scoring team in baseball was shut out for just the third time this season, with the last coming April 7 in a 2-0 loss at the Chicago Cubs.
Texas had seven hits, left eight on base and was 0-2 with runners in scoring position. Jonah Heim and Josh Smith each had two hits.
The Mariners (18-18) got all the runs they needed against Rangers starter Andrew Heaney in the third on Ty France’s two-out, two-run single. Tom Murphy added a two-run homer off Heaney in the seventh.
Heaney dropped to 2-3 after allowing four runs (three earned) in 6 2/3 innings.
