An eventful last few days for Texas Rangers top prospect Evan Carter continued Monday night with his first career MLB home run in the crucial series opener at the Toronto Blue Jays.

The rookie outfielder, batting ninth in the order and leading off the third, jumped on the second pitch from Toronto starter Chris Bassitt– an 87-mph cutter – and deposited it 406 feet away in the right-field seats at Rogers Centre.

Carter showed off his quick, compact swing, tying the game at 2-2 after the Blue Jay had scored twice in the bottom of the second. Considered the top prospect in the Texas system when he was called up Friday, Carter started in left field against Toronto.

He singled in his first career at-bat Friday against the Oakland Athletics. Carter had his first multi-hit game with a single in the fifth. He would score on Corey Seager's single to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead.

The Rangers came into the Monday sporting a two-game winning streak and fighting for playoff position. In addition to the American League West race, Texas immediately behind the Seattle Mariners and Blue Jays in the Wild Card standings.

Carter was called up as Adolis García went on the 10-day injured list with a strained patellar tendon.

At 21 years, 10 days old, Carter was the youngest player to debut with the club since Nomar Mazara on April 10, 2016. Mazara was 20 years, 350 days old.

Carter was rated at the No. 8 MLB prospect by MLB Pipeline. He was batting .288 with 13 homers, 17 doubles, and 67 RBI in 108 minor league games.
