Ex-Twins All-Star Could Be Solid Veteran Option To Help Out Red Sox's Rotation

Boston still needs to add some more depth to the starting rotation

Will the Boston Red Sox make another addition to the starting rotation before Opening Day?

Boston's biggest offseason addition certainly was starter Lucas Giolito. The veteran hurler was a solid pickup and was expected to be one of the club's top starters in 2024. The club got bad news recently, though, and Giolito could end up missing the entire season now due to injury.

Speculation picked up immediately after the announcement of Giolito's injury that the club could look to make another addition. Jordan Montgomery still is out there but at this point, he seems like a pipe dream.

There are other options out there that the Red Sox could add if they want to add more depth at a cheap price. One player who could make some sense is one-time All-Star Jake Odorizzi.

The 33-year-old missed the 2023 season after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder and still is looking for his next opportunity.

Odorizzi recently threw for clubs but still hasn't signed a deal, yet. After missing the 2023 campaign it wouldn't be surprising to see him land a minor league deal. If this is the case, he would make perfect sense for Boston.

He is an 11-year big league veteran with a career 3.99 ERA in 241 total appearances. Odorizzi was an All-Star in 2019 as a member of the Minnesota Twins and has upside and certainly is a bounce-back candidate.

If he could impress at the minor league level, it wouldn't be surprising to see him back in the big leagues. First, he has to find a club to give him an opportunity and then he needs to work his way back.

Boston could use more starting pitching depth and certainly could afford a minor-league deal.
