Red Sox Reportedly Discussed Star Pitcher For Outfielder Swap With Dodgers

Boston attempted to get a deal done with the Dodgers involving a star pitcher

The Boston Red Sox may end up looking a little different before the 2024 campaign kicks off.

Boston has been in plenty of trade rumors recently. Red Sox star closer Kenley Jansen has been at the center of most of the rumors and he still possibly could be moved. If he isn't traded before Opening Day, a deal around the trade deadline also is a possibility.

It's unclear what will happen with him, but the Red Sox reportedly did discuss a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers during the offseason in a possible swap for outfielder Manuel Margot, according to MLB.com's Juan Toribio.

"The Dodgers acquired Margot from the (Tampa Bay Rays) in December in the same deal that brought Tyler Glasnow to Los Angeles," Toribio said. "With the Dodgers set to pay Margot $10 million in 2024, there was always the possibility of the club trading the veteran outfielder before the start of the season.

"At one point in the offseason, the Dodgers engaged with the Red Sox on a possible swap that would’ve sent Margot to Boston in exchange for longtime Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen. Those discussions never progressed past the initial stages and fizzled out pretty quickly into the process, sources told MLB.com."

Jansen has been linked to the Dodgers on multiple occasions which isn't surprising because he spent much of his big league career with the club. Boston was looking for outfield depth at one point and Margot could've made sense but nothing came to fruition.

Margot no longer is with Los Angeles as he recently was traded to the Minnesota Twins. If Los Angeles still wants Jansen, it will have to come up with a different trade package.
