Former Cincinnati Reds Star Brandon Phillips Makes Hall of Fame Ballot

Phillips was a 3-time All-Star in 11 seasons with Cincinnati.

The 2024 National Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot was released on Monday. Former Reds star second baseman Brandon Phillips made the cut.

He was a 3-time All-Star in 11 seasons in Cincinnati. He dazzled fans with his defense, winning four Gold Glove awards and helping the Reds make the postseason three times.

He also won the Silver Slugger award in 2011 when he finished with a .300 batting average, 18 home runs and 82 RBI in 150 games.

Phillips was traded to Cincinnati from Cleveland in April of 2006 and immediately had an impact by hitting 17 home runs, driving in 75 runs, and stealing 25 bases.

In 2007, he became the first Reds second baseman to join the 30-30 club, when he mashed 30 home runs and stole 32 bases. He joined Eric Davis (1987) and Barry Larkin (1996) as the third Reds player to accomplish that feat.

After 11 seasons in Cincinnati, Phillips finished his Reds career having played in more than 1,600 games, hitting 191 home runs, knocked in 851 RBI, and stole 194 bases.

Outside of Cincinnati, Phillips played in Cleveland for four seasons. He also spent time with the Angels, Braves, and Red Sox before retiring after the 2018 season.

Phillips' career numbers (.275 batting average, 211 home runs, 209 stolen bases, 951 RBI) probably won't get him into Cooperstown, but he will undoubtedly be a Reds Hall of Famer.

While his offense and iconic batting stance can't be forgotten, it will be his legendary defense and infectious personality that Reds fans remember.
