The two major storylines this MLB hot stove season have centered on the Houston Astros sign stealing scandal and which uniform Mookie Betts will be wearing in 2020 and beyond. The Boston Red Sox have been actively shopping its superstar right fielder in an attempt to get below the $208 million luxury tax threshold. After signing a $27 million deal for 2020, Betts will be a highly coveted player next offseason. SI MLB writer Matt Martell calls Betts the “perfect free agent” given his tools and stellar production at the plate and in the outfield. Martell also notes that Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Trevor Bauer should be the top available arm on the 2021 open market. He struggled in ten starts for the Reds after getting traded from the Cleveland Indians, but Bauer has posted at least a 10.0 K/9 in each of the last three seasons.
