The MLB offseason has been marred in the fallout of the sign-stealing scandal involving the Houston Astros 2017 championship team as well as the 2018 title-winning Boston Red Sox. The latest effect has come in the form of a DraftKings player filing a class-action lawsuit filed against MLB, the Astros and Red Sox for misleading contestants on what they were spending their money on. The player, a lawyer named Kristopher Olson based in Massachusetts, argues that the sign-stealing invalidates the statistics of the baseball players involved, which alters the outcomes of DraftKings fantasy baseball contests. SI legal analyst Michael McCann calls this a unique case considering the suit argues for consumer protection given that DraftKings and MLB are contractual partners.
