SI Insider: The Tony La Russa Hiring By The White Sox Could Either Be Genius Or A Disaster

La Russa will have some major adjustments to make to succeed in today's MLB

SI senior writer Tom Verducci breaks down why the White Sox hiring of Tony La Russa could be an absolute disaster--or it could be genius.

The game of baseball is much different now than it was when La Russa last managed in 2011. Analytics play a much bigger role, strikeouts, shifts, and relief pitchers dominate the game now in a way they didn't 9 years ago. But the biggest adjustment for La Russa will be managing the players of today. The White Sox have a strong, young core that loves to play the game out loud and stand for things they believe in and take pride in their culture and in their skills. This simply does not jive with the old school baseball mind La Russa has shown time and time again.
