The Mets lost elite closer Edwin Diaz for the season after he suffered a full-thickness tear of the right patellar tendon, which required surgery.

While they could go with internal options to replace Diaz, such as ex-Yankees David Robertson and Adam Ottavino, one MLB insider believes they should trade for a closer.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden made a list of candidates, who the Mets could possibly trade for in the wake of the Diaz injury.

One of the names on the list is a familiar face to Yankees fans: ex-pinstripes closer Aroldis Chapman.

Earlier in the offseason, Chapman signed a one-year, $3.75 million deal with the Kansas City Royals. However, the 35-year-old does have vast experience playing in New York and could be an option for the Mets.

Chapman is coming off a poor final season with the Yankees, in which he had just nine saves and a career-worst 4.46 ERA in 43 appearances.

His time with the Yankees also ended in negative fashion, as he didn't show up for a team workout before the postseason.

In seven seasons with the Yankees, Chapman had 153 saves and a 2.94 ERA. He also made the All-Star team three times during this span.

Will he return to New York by playing for the Yankees' crosstown rivals? It might just be possible after the Diaz injury.
