The Philadelphia 76ers are working on filling the vacant two-way slot they freed up on Friday night.

According to The Atheltic’s Shams Charania, the Sixers plan to sign Jeff Dowtin Jr. to a two-way deal. Dowtin replaces Kenneth Lofton, who was waived on Friday night.

This season, Downtin signed with the Sixers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. He appeared in 16 games, drawing 14 starts while averaging 32 minutes on the floor.

The veteran guard has produced 18 points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 38 percent from deep. In addition to his scoring, Dowtin has averaged six assists, three rebounds, and one steal per game at the G League level.

Prior to his run with the Blue Coats this year, Dowtin spent time with several organizations. After going undrafted in 2020 out of St. John’s, Dowtin joined the Orlando Magic’s G League affiliate. In 2021, he had a run with the Golden State Warriors.

In 2022, Dowtin spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Magic once again. Then, last season, the veteran guard had a stint with the Toronto Raptors, playing under the current Sixers' head coach, Nick Nurse.

Dowtin’s time with the Raptors lasted 25 games. He averaged 10 minutes on the court, draining 44 percent of his shots from the field. While averaging 2.4 points per game, Dowtin knocked down 31 percent of his threes.

With the addition of Dowtin, the Sixers filled their third and final two-way slot once again. Dowtin joins the rookie guard Terquavion Smith and the rookie forward Ricky Council.

Meanwhile, the waived center/forward Kennth Lofton will search for his next opportunity after getting released on Friday night following the Sixers’ win over the Charlotte Hornets
