Former Sixers Slam Dunk Champion Hints at Return to Contest

In this story:
For the first time in franchise history, the Philadelphia 76ers had an NBA Dunk Contest representative take home the trophy.
Although Mac McClung was a newly-signed two-way prospect after he accepted the invite last year, the young guard donned Sixers threads in the contest after spending all of his time throughout the 2022-2023 season as a member of their G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.
McClung would remain on the Sixers’ roster for the rest of last season. When the team clinched a playoff berth, extended rest for key players allowed McClung to average 20 minutes on the court across two appearances.
After putting up 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists per game, McClung sat throughout the Sixers’ playoff run before becoming a free agent over the summer.
McClung still hasn’t found a place to call home in the NBA just yet. While he signed with the Orlando Magic over the summer, he was waived before the start of the regular season. Once again, McClung is spending all of his time playing for Orlando’s G League affiliate.
Will he make his way back to the Dunk Contest after clearing the competition last season? The young G Leaguer hinted that could be the case on Monday afternoon.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, McClung is expected to be invited back to the All-Star Weekend event. While he’s currently not on an NBA roster, McClung was granted permission by the league to become the first G League player to participate in the contest before he signed with the 76ers.
It appears they are willing to allow McClung to represent the Osceola Magic in the contest once again if he plans to accept the challenge.
