Jaden Springer Helps Send 76ers’ Affiliate to G League Finals
As the Philadelphia 76ers traveled to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks Sunday night, the Sixers assigned their second-year guard Jaden Springer to the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.
As the Coats recently won their Eastern Conference Semifinals matchup against the Capital City Go-Go, the team was set to pay a visit to the Long Island Nets on Sunday night.
All season long, Springer has been critical to Delaware’s success. And on the biggest stage of the season so far, the former first-round pick shined when called upon.
In the first 12 minutes of action during Delaware's Eastern Conference Finals matchup, Springer went 4-9 from the field, scoring nine points. The Blue Coats led the Nets 30-22 through the first half of action.
During the second quarter, Springer received help from former Sixer Charlie Brown Jr. and Braxton Key. As they each scored ten points, the Blue Coats maintained their lead. Going into halftime, Delaware was out in front 56-45.
In the third quarter, the Blue Coats held the Nets to 36 percent from the field, although they attempted six more shots than Delaware. Despite turning the ball over seven times in the third quarter alone, the Blue Coats hit on 50 percent of their shots, which helped Delaware extend its lead to as many as 25 points.
A blowout seemed to be in store for the Blue Coats, but the Nets continued to hold their own until the end, as they outscored the Blue Coats in the final quarter of action. However, it wasn’t enough.
Delaware made it out of Long Island with a 108-94 win. With that victory, the Blue Coats secured their spot in the 2023 NBA G League Finals. This year marks the third-straight season the Blue Coats will participate in the title game.
76ers’ Jaden Springer led the way with 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. He also blocked three shots on the defensive end. Sixers’ two-way prospects Mac McClung and Louis King gave a solid effort as well.
King knocked down seven of his 16 shots, scoring 20 points. He also produced five assists, came down with three rebounds, and snatched three steals.
Meanwhile, McClung scored 16 points while dishing out three assists. He also finished with seven rebounds and two steals on the defensive end.
