At last, the Philadelphia 76ers are receiving potential All-Star recognition for their former first-round draft pick, Tyrese Maxey. Amidst his fourth season in the NBA, Maxey is viewed as a top-five Eastern Conference guard based on two All-Star fan vote returns.

While Maxey’s not guaranteed to notch his first All-Star appearance here in year four, his emergence remains notable as opposing coaches and players continue to give the young guard tons of praise as he continues thriving.

On Friday, Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown is the latest to express his positive thoughts regarding Maxey’s game. As he reviewed the former first-rounder out of Kentucky, Brown mentioned 76ers legend Allen Iverson, as he believes Maxey and Iverson share a notable trait.

“Man, that dude’s just explosive,” Brown told reporters, discussing Maxey on Friday. “He’s a small guy. When you’re talking about traditional explosive guys, you’re talking about LeBron’s and stuff like that. He’s not Allen Iverson, but he’s fearless like A.I. was.”

While the Iverson comparisons don’t come frequently, Maxey has seen his fair share of connections to the Hall of Fame guard, who made a name for himself as a former No. 1 overall pick for the 76ers.

A lot of that has to do with Maxey’s willingness to do whatever he needs to do to make plays happen on the court, which is something Brown pointed out.

“When you have a guy that’s explosive as they are, and they are fearless, meaning they don’t care how many times they get knocked to the ground and they don’t care who they see in front of them, they’re gonna take the three if it’s open, they’re gonna take the pull-up if it’s open, or they are gonna dunk on you if there’s a lane. When you have that… Man, that’s hard to guard because of his quickness and all other athletic attributes of the game mixed in with his skillset,” Brown finished. “He’s gonna be a tremendous talent in this league for a long time.”

Facing the Kings on Friday, Maxey checked in for 40 minutes. During that time, he produced 21 points, three rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks. He helped the Sixers dominate Brown’s Kings with a 112-93 victory.
