Sixers' Joel Embiid Remains Questionable vs. Spurs

Joel Embiid's status against the Spurs is up in the air.

The Philadelphia 76ers are back on the floor Friday night to take on the San Antonio Spurs. Once again, the star center Joel Embiid is on the injury report. Per usual, Embiid is listed as questionable due to foot soreness.

The good news is that Embiid’s lingering foot soreness hasn’t been a severe enough issue to actually take him off the court lately. For the last five games, Embiid entered matchups listed as questionable. The only game the big man missed was on January 21, when the Sixers paid a visit to the Sacramento Kings to wrap up their West Coast road trip.

Over the last four games, Embiid averaged 35 minutes on the court. During that time, the big man has put up 33 points per game while coming down with 13 rebounds per game and producing four assists per game.

For the second time this season, the Sixers will take on the Spurs. When the two teams battled it out at the beginning of the year, Embiid and the Sixers were struggling. At 0-2, Embiid checked in for 36 minutes in the October 22 matchup.

The big man chucked up 25 shots, draining 56 percent of his shots. He also went 12-15 from the line. Although Embiid had himself a spectacular performance by scoring 40 points and averaging 13 rebounds, the Sixers fell short to the Spurs, taking on a shocking nine-point loss.

Although Embiid’s been battling foot soreness, he’s still thriving. Since suffering a mid-foot sprain in mid-November, Embiid played in 26 of 30 games. By knocking down 54 percent of his shots from the field and 41 percent of his threes, Embiid has led the Sixers in scoring by producing 34 points per matchup.

Embiid will likely be a game-time decision for Friday’s matchup in San Antonio. The Spurs and the Sixers are set to tip off at 8:00 PM ET.
