Ben Simmons' Three-Pointer Generated Hospital Donations from Sixers Fans

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- It was a strange night in South Philadelphia on Wednesday. The Philadelphia 76ers were set to host the New York Knicks at the Wells Fargo Center and everybody expected Philly to take care of business with ease.
At this point, though, we all understand that the Sixers simply cannot make situations easy for themselves. Therefore, a close battle ensued between the 76ers and the Knicks. At one point, the Sixers fell into a 17-point deficit early on in the third quarter.
That caused an uproar in boos from the local fans as they voiced their displeasure with the team's performance. The vibe from the crowd during the first and second halves was like night and day. Before the Sixers formed and completed their comeback to win the matchup, fans were not thrilled with what they were witnessing.
During the first half, however, it felt like there was no way Sixers fans could be let down since something so incredibly unusual happened. Ben Simmons hit his first three-point shot attempt of the year -- which also happens to be the first of his young career.
As you can expect, Wells Fargo Center erupted with cheers. For a solid few minutes, fans were on their feet applauding Simmons' big moment as they have been waiting for it since the young guard got drafted first-overall out of LSU a few years back.

Meanwhile, on the internet, fans were gathering their money to make donations to CHOP, which is short for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Allow me to explain. A new trend from Sixers fans began a few weeks back when the Sixers visited Portland to take on the Trail Blazers.
Late during the game, the Sixers trailed and needed three points to take the lead. So at the time, a Reddit user by the name of u/mikeb32 decided to pledge a $50 donation to CHOP, if Sixers' guard Furkan Korkmaz comes in and makes the go-ahead winning shot. Sure enough, Korkmaz got the open look, took it, and won the Sixers the game.
Since then, the Reddit user, mikeb32 hasn't pressed his luck again. That was until Wednesday night against the Knicks. Before the game, he once again made the small bet. The user announced that if Ben Simmons makes his first three-point shot, he would make another donation. To join in on the good fun, other fans said the same.
Fast forward to Thursday morning, the day after the shot, and now over $2,000 has been donated to CHOP from the Sixers fans of Reddit. While Ben Simmons and his teammates didn't care for his shot all that much, his accomplishment allowed fans to contribute money to a good cause, which fans were more than willing to do after Simmons hit his shot. What a night for Simmons and Sixers fans.
