Although the Milwaukee Bucks’ incredible winning streak was halted at 16 last weekend, it was an impressive feat nonetheless that helped them capture the best record in the Eastern Conference and the entire NBA. And while Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo was certainly the most important factor in their success, a closer look reveals that several other elements played an equally vital role.

A star in his role

Jevon Carter gamely stepped into the starting five when Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton went through extended absences due to numerous injuries. He was pivotal in their 15-5 start and has continued his crucial contributions during the Bucks’ 16-game winning run. In that stretch, the West Virginia product made 49% of his three-point attempts while continuing to be a pesky point-of-attack defender.

With this kind of effective play, Carter has not only endeared himself to coach Mike Budenholzer, but also to his teammates. His grit and energy have been contagious on the court and in the locker room, as he has taken it upon himself to ensure everyone is on the same page.

Excellent bench production

The Bucks’ starting five is one of the—if not the—most fearsome quintet in the Association, winning their 131 minutes by 42 points. As impressive as the starters have been, the Bucks’ bench has been just as tenacious.

Carter, Joe Ingles, Khris Middleton, and Wesley Matthews played double-digit games during the winning streak and were all pivotal in Milwaukee’s success. Carter was key in providing the energy off the bench when the starters needed a breather, while Middleton has been his productive self coming off the bench as he continues to build his strength up after going through knee troubles early in the season.

The Bucks’ bench got even deeper with the return of Bobby Portis Jr. from a knee injury and the addition of veteran forward Jae Crowder, who the team got at the trade deadline. It's clear that the Bucks have developed a deep rotation of players who can step up when needed, making them one of the deepest teams in the entire league.
