The Milwaukee Bucks sit at a crucial crossroads. Coming from a disappointing first-round exit at the hands of the eighth-seeded Miami Heat, the Bucks are gearing up for a bounce-back season. With All-Stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jrue Holiday still under contract, the Bucks have ample firepower to dominate the league once again. What they don’t have at the moment, though, is a head coach.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer, the Bucks recently interviewed former Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks for the position. The report states that Milwaukee was “impressed” with Brooks during his interview, but no further decisions have been made yet.

Careful consideration

In the weeks since the Bucks announced they’ve relieved former coach Mike Budenholzer, numerous names have been linked with the franchise. From former Toronto coach Nick Nurse to current University of Houston coach Kelvin Sampson, it appears the Bucks are taking their time to make sure they get the right man for the job. Fischer wrote that the Bucks have already talked to Brooks, who’s currently an assistant for the Portland Trail Blazers, and were impressed by the former NBA guard.

“Scott Brooks, the Portland assistant who previously held the head job in Washington and Oklahoma City, left a strong impression on Milwaukee during his meeting,” wrote Fischer.

Can’t afford to get this wrong

Over the last decade, the Bucks have risen from bottom-dwellers to one of the league’s elite teams. With Giannis leading the way, the Bucks captured the NBA title in 2021 and were actually the overwhelming title favorites before they got shell-shocked by Jimmy Butler and the Heat.

Given this level of success, it’s no surprise that the Bucks want to take their time in finding a new head coach who can take them to the next level. It’s a decision they can’t afford to get wrong. The Bucks need someone who understands the talent on the roster and has the vision and leadership skills necessary to reach their championship aspirations.
