Sources: Cavs target West trip for Thomas debut

CLEVELAND -- Isaiah Thomas has been progressing on schedule, and barring any setbacks, the All-Star point guard is on track to make his season debut during the Cleveland Cavaliers' upcoming West Coast trip, league sources told Amico Hoops on Tuesday.
The three-game swing begins Christmas Day against the defending Golden State Warriors. It ends with visits to Sacramento (Dec. 27) and Utah (Dec. 30).
Thomas suffered a hip injury in last season's Eastern Conference finals as a member of the Boston Celtics.
He has recently taken part in games of four-on-four and three-on-three, and according to sources, looks ready for five-on-five -- and possibly even game action. "He's ready," one source said.
But the Cavs are proceeding with caution and intend to give Thomas time to get acclimated to his new teammates.
During one scrimmage last week, Thomas made a jumper over the defense of Cavs center Tristan Thompson, as coach Tyronn Lue and members of the team's front office watched from the sidelines.
Lue told reporters Monday there is no set date for Thomas to make his debut.
Thomas is 5-foot-9 and averaged 28.9 points per game last season. He suffered the injury in Game 2 of the conference finals after running into a screen set by Cavs big man Kevin Love.
The Cavs acquired Thomas in an offseason trade that sent Kyrie Irving to the Celtics.
"I’m in a good place right now," Thomas said on Cavs media day in September. "Each day is getting better. Each day is better than the previous day."
He later added, "Being around these guys, you see why they win. The camaraderie is amazing.”
The Cavs have won 15 of 16 after dismantling the Atlanta Hawks 123-114 on Tuesday.
