Gregg Popovich Calls Celtics 'Championship-Caliber Team'
Arguably the best coach in NBA history is bullish on the Boston Celtics' title chances this season.
Following the Celtics' 33-point drubbing of the San Antonio Spurs on New Year's Eve, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich called Boston a "championship-caliber team," per Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.
"They're a championship-caliber team," stated Popovich. "That's what they're out there for. That's their goal, and they proved it once again. They got good talent, obviously, all-star talent, and they've got the grit."
Popovich knows a thing or two about what it takes to win an NBA title. The 74-year-old has coached the Spurs to five championships during his stint as head coach. He most recently guided San Antonio to the Larry O'Brien Trophy in 2014 when the Spurs triumphed over the Miami Heat in five games.
The Celtics will hope to continue their winning ways when they visit the Paycom Center to play Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night.
