The Boston Celtics are converting guard JD Davison, the G League MVP, to a standard, two-year NBA contract, agent Corey Marcum tells ESPN. Davison, who has played 34 career NBA games, averaged 25.1 points, 7.6 assists and 5.6 rebounds for G League Maine this season. pic.twitter.com/7qcmGWVoEG

Davison, recently named the 2025 G League Most Valuable Player, is set to take the next step in his career after signing a standard two-year NBA contract. During his three seasons on a two-way deal, Davison made appearances in 35 games for the Celtics, where he averaged 1.7 points over 5.2 minutes per contest.
This season in the G League, Davison recorded 25.1 points per game, 5.3 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 33.6 percent from three in 30 games and 34.5 minutes of action.
The 22-year-old has spent most of his time in the G League and established himself as the best G League player this season. His resume in the G League speaks for itself; aside from the MVP this season, he was part of the NBA G League Next Up Game, All-NBA G League Third Team in 2024, and was part of the title team from last season.
The Celtics drafted Davison in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft, selecting him with the No. 53 overall pick. Generally, players drafted that late do not pan out, but Davison is proving to be the exception rather than the rule so far.
Davison's contract being converted makes him eligible to play in the playoffs. However, the Alabama native might not play a huge role for the Celtics, especially with the playoffs approaching.
Davison may not play much this spring; however, if he can prove himself in training camp and later on, that could be a different story for next season.
Davison attended Alabama University and was a one-and-done player. In his lone season in Tuscaloosa, he averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He was also named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
The Celtics finished the season as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and are among the favorites to repeat as champions. Boston has all the tools to be the last team standing once again, and if needed, Davison could play a massive part in that.
