Jaylen Brown Reveals How Protective Mask Impacts His Game
Jaylen Brown donned a protective face mask in his first game after the All-Star break. His new accessory comes after suffering a facial fracture, which occurred when colliding with teammate Jayson Tatum nearly two weeks ago.
Brown, who wore the mask during the All-Star Game, pouring in 35 points to pace Team LeBron, seemed unbothered by the protective wear as he registered 30 points, 3 assists, and 11 rebounds in the Boston Celtics’ 142-138 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
After the win, the Georgia native discussed how he feels playing with the extra piece of gear.
“It’s going to take some getting use to,” Brown said as seen on NBC Sports Boston. “Just some things I got to adjust and adapt to, but I will. Today was the first, I would say real game with it on. I think it went fine. But it’s going definitely take some getting use to and some adjustments.”
The Celtics star’s main concern is maintaining vision on the floor, especially when opposing players approach from the side or back.
Despite this setback, there are no major issues surrounding the black mask. Brown stated “I felt protected. I didn’t shy away from contact. I didn’t feel like I had to alter my game a little or anything like that.”
Brown estimates that he will play with a protective mask for around four to six weeks.
