Paul George Reacts to Lou Williams Retiring

Former LA Clippers guard and 17-year NBA veteran Lou Williams announced his retirement on Sunday morning. Williams played for six teams during his NBA career, winning three 6th Man of the Year awards, and breaking the record for most points off the bench by any player in league history.

After the Clippers transitioned from the Lob City era, Williams carried them from 2017 to 2019, helping create a winning culture that ultimately attracted both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Also spending time with that star duo in 2020 and 2021, Williams received a congratulatory message from George on Instagram:

Williams is truly one of the greatest and most important Clippers players in franchise history. Spending four seasons with the Clippers, Williams turned in some truly special performances. From game-winners to historic comebacks, Williams was at the center of countless memorable games during a transformative era of Clippers basketball.

Finishing his career as the all-time leading bench scorer, Williams has a strong case for the greatest 6th Man in NBA history. It's unlikely that there will ever be another 6th Man that was a playoff team's primary scoring option and a borderline All-Star.

During his time with the Clippers, Williams was 3rd in the entire NBA in 4th quarter points, trailing only Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden in that category. It was a special career for Williams, who retires with accolades and records that may never be touched again.
