LeBron James Details Why Erik Spoelstra, Chris Bosh Were Keys To Miami Heat's Success

There's no denying LeBron James was the best player on the floor during his time with the Miami Heat, but he admits his dominance was not the sole reason for their success.

The Heat's Big Three of James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh steamrolled to the NBA Finals in their first season together. However, they were stunned in six games by Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks. The team came back stronger the following season, winning the title over the Oklahoma City Thunder in a gentleman's sweep.

In a preview for James' 'Mind the Game' podcast episode with former NBA guard JJ Redick, he detailed why coach Erik Spoelstra and Bosh were the keys. to the Heat's triumph after falling short.

"I'm going to tell you when it all changed. Obviously, my first year there, you know, played great basketball, got all the way to the Finals, lose in the Finals. Spo is the reason why we were a better team, and our team was more assembled properly," James shared. "That summer, he went to Oregon and hung out with Chip Kelly and learned the spread offense, and tried to figure out if he could translate that to basketball. I know when he came back to us, he knew that in order for us to reach our potential, I had to be [expletive] ten times better than I was in that previous June Finals, but Chris Bosh had to go to the five."

Bosh had an impressive season in 2012 with the positional adjustment, averaging 18 points and 7.9 rebounds on 48.7 percent shooting. His ability from three-point range steadily improved throughout the following years, shooting 28.6 percent on less than one attempt to 37.5 percent on nearly four attempts per game.

"He had to start working on his corner three, faithfully. Every day after practice. Corner three. Every day after practice. We're going to post you up, and we're going to get you your elbow catches. Offense is going to run through you at times," James said. "But in order to bring, you know, the Tyson Chandler's out of the paint, in order to bring the Roy Hibbert's out of the paint, in order to bring Kevin Garnett out of the paint, you got to at least be a threat."
