While Dwyane Wade is heading into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, he’s making sure his critics hear it.

Former NBA player Paul Pierce is one of those who criticized his career. On a recent episode of The Dan Le Batard Show podcast, Wade finally responded to him by saying Pierce is constantly thinking about him.

“I mean, listen, rent is expensive in America and I’m living rent free right now so let him keep going,” Wade said. “I like living rent free.”

Though former players are now comparing Wade’s career to others, he makes it known he’s not willing to fall into the trap.

“This is why I love the media,” he said. “It’s documented. I don’t need to say anything. Everything is documented. So, I’ll let you guys go ahead and talk about all that stuff. It sounds better coming from y’all than me. I’m done playing the game of basketball. I’m not comparing myself to someone who’s not playing the game, or who is playing the game.”

The comment Wade is responding to was made on Jul. 22. A video of rappers Cam’Ron and Ma$e’s It Is What It Is podcast went viral of Pierce saying Wade’s teammates were a huge part of his success.

“For a long time, my skills went unappreciated because I didn’t get to play with a lot of great players,” Pierce said. “And then I got to play with KG and Ray past they prime. Okay, if four years earlier you put me, Ray and KG together, you think we ain’t walking away with three chips?”

When he said this, he faced backlash from pundits who called him a “hater”. Due to the fact Wade and the Heat stopped him from winning another championship numerous times, they might have a point.
