Miami Heat fans were ready to declare their season over after losing to the New York Knicks at the end of March. They have won three consecutive since. While victories against the Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons didn’t really impress fans, their dominant win against the Philadelphia 76ers did.

Some fans have completely jumped ship, now declaring that Miami has a chance to be a Finals contender.

Okay, some of them may be joking.

Still, it displays fan optimism after beating a legit contender in the Eastern Conference. Considering Joel Embiid just came off a 52-point performance against the Boston Celtics, it was a surprise to see Miami respond to him so well. Embiid was held to just 21 points, and nobody else on the Sixers scored more than 14. Heat fans joked about “owning” the Sixers, dating back to when they eliminated Philadelphia in six games last postseason.

Jimmy Butler and Tyler Herro each had 24 points, but it was the team contributions that made the difference. Instead of Butler single-handedly scoring, Miami had solid contributions from Max Strus, Bam Adebayo, Kyle Lowry and Caleb Martin. The team shot 46.2 percent from 3-point range, extending their record to 7-2 when shooting at least 40 percent from the arc since the All-Star break.

With this win, Miami clinched the Southeast division but still have aspirations of clinching the No. 6 spot despite low odds. They continue this quest against the Washington Wizards (34-46) Friday night.
