The Miami Heat wrapped up their third regular-season game with a blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, 106-90.

Miami’s best play of the game came early in the second quarter, while leading by five points.

Guard Dru Smith brought up the ball, patiently dribbling around the three-point line. Forward Jamal Cain cut down the middle of the lane, finding a lob pass from Smith. Cain hammered down the dunk, pushing Miami’s lead to seven.

Following this play, the Heat’s lead began to slip. Minnesota entered the halftime break with a two-point lead. The game remained relatively close until midway through the fourth, when the Timberwolves found themselves up by 19 points.

Cain and Smith combined for 13 points in their temporarily increased roles. Key players Jimmy Butler, Caleb Martin, Kevin Love, Haywood Highsmith, and Josh Richardson were sidelined in tonight’s showcase.

Naz Reid led the way for Minnesota with 25 points and eight rebounds on 71.4 percent shooting. Stars Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns had disappointing performances for their standards. The duo combined for 31 points in the victory.

Miami concludes a three-game road trip on Monday against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks (1-0). The Bucks are regarded as one of the best teams in the league, meaning Miami may start their season with a 1-3 record.
