Miami Heat's Jamal Cain Aiming To Cause Frustration On Defense

In this story:
Miami Heat’s Jamal Cain remains among the standout players in this year’s preseason.
Following another solid performance against the Brooklyn Nets, Cain discussed how he has seen his game progress defensively.
"I feel like I've improved off-ball, on-ball," Cain said. "Now, I'm trying to be disruptive, trying to frustrate someone. That's why I've been picking up full court. I have the endurance for it."
The Heat are known for their scrappiness on defense, which Cain is adapting too. The ability to guard a player full court makes him stand out among the team. In a time where he is competing for a roster spot, every aspect matters.
"I feel like I've checked a few," Cain said of his checklist of improvements. "I still have a couple more that I want to check."
When discussing areas of weakness, Cain was sure to mention three-point shooting. In his most impressive showing, which came in a loss to the San Antonio Spurs, he displayed efficient shooting, with 75 percent from three-point range. However, the inconsistency is Cain’s biggest concern.
The Heat conclude their preseason against the Houston Rockets, where Cain will make a final push for a contract. With forwards Jimmy Butler, Haywood Highsmith, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. sidelined, he has an opportunity to show out.
